    Lacombe
    This prairie town has one of the best preserved main streets from Alberta's early years. More than 25 buildings have been restored. Aspen Beach Provincial Park was the first Provincial Park declared in Alberta. With a wide and shallow sand beach and warm water, it is perfect for paddling, sun bathing and swimming. On Gull Lake, 17 km west of Lacombe on Hwy 12, call 748-3939. The Ellis Bird Farm has self-guided trails, a winter bird feeding program, educational programs, a gift shop and a tea house. Open June 3 to Sept 7, daily Wed to Sun 11 am - 4 pm. Admission by donation, call 885-4477. Lacombe Blacksmith Museum is a 1904 blacksmith shop with a working Blacksmith on site; open Tues to Sun 11 am - 4 pm, call 782-7333. Michener House is the birthplace of Rt. Hon. Roland Michener, Governor General of Canada from 1967 - 1974. The house was built in 1894 and has been restored to the period. Free, open year round, Fri and Sat 1 pm - 4 pm. 5036 - 51 St, 782-3933.
